Court-appointed monitors of Texas’ foster care system say the state rushed its investigation into The Refuge, a Bastrop facility where employees were accused of sex trafficking foster kids, and produced an exonerating report that was “at best, premature.”

Brooke Crowder, CEO and founder of The Refuge, speaks during a media briefing concerning two separate incidents on the campus of their foster care home for girls who have been sexually trafficked, Friday, Mar., 11, 2022 in Austin.

Still, the Rangers’ initial investigation found “no evidence that any of the residents at the Refuge shelter have ever been sexually abused or trafficked while at the shelter,” McCraw wrote.Texas foster care home was supposed to help sex trafficked kids. Instead it was trafficking them. The monitors said they also found evidence that The Refuge’s leaders failed to report separate accusations of abuse in January 2021. A DPS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment; Abbott’s office deferred to the agency.

“The investigation by the Texas Rangers is still ongoing, and they are committed to pursuing each and every allegation to its end and interviewing all persons necessary before concluding the investigation,” an agency spokeswoman said.

Republicans in 2022 have no respect for the rule of law. Lock. Them. Up. That is just so heartbreaking How sad the Texas Rangers would have their good reputation sullied in a CoverUp for GregAbbott_TX failed leadership. Once respected now destroyed by the MAGA faithful. The TexasRangers are not supposed to be a political tool.. but neither is the Texas Guard on the border.
