A doctor who examined a 17-year-old after she was allegedly raped and sexually assaulted by five men has told the Central Criminal Court that findings from a medical examination were consistent with the possibility of non-consensual intercourse.

The doctor was giving evidence in the trial of four men who are accused of rape and sexual assault. Three are also charged with false imprisonment. A fifth man is not before the court.

The trial has previously heard the complainant got into a car with the men in the early hours of the morning after becoming separated from her friends after a night out. The prosecution said she was driven to a location where she was raped"one after another". The doctor said the objective of SATU is to provide holistic care to people who have made allegations of sexual assault to gardaí and to obtain forensic evidence. She said she had conducted hundreds of such examinations.

The doctor said that when examining the complainant's genitals she found swelling, a laceration and different areas of bruising along with bleeding which was consistent with trauma.
