In her ruling, Judge Nokuthula Sylvia Daniso said she was not persuaded that the issues raised by Lebohang Lucas Morake, 25, in his grounds of appeal, would have reasonable prospects of success. On 21 January, Morake was convicted and sentenced to 20 years for the murder of Angelina Dora Lecwidi.According to the Daily Maverick, Lecwidi and Morake were at a local tavern drinking when an argument ensued about alleged infidelity.
She was admitted to hospital and died two days later, with the cause of death being recorded as"blunt head injury".further reported that the court heard from prosecutor Tholoana Sekhonyana that the post-mortem revealed that the deceased suffered fatal injuries because she was severely assaulted. In addition, Morake also challenged the finding that there were no substantial and compelling circumstances warranting a lesser sentence than the prescribed one, adding that the sentence imposed is shockingly disproportionate.
