A new study looking into how university students feel about Quebec’s religious symbols law is painting a bleak picture. Many say they’ve lost faith in the province and plan to leave.

Two Quebecers, seen here protesting against the province's government's Bill 21 in 2019. A recent study found many Quebec students are considering leaving the province as a result of the bill, which bans some civil servants from wearing religious symbols at work.

The bill, also known as Quebec's Laicity Act, became law in June 2019. It banned some civil servants, including teachers, police officers and government prosecutors, from wearing religious symbols at work within the province. "I think that the bill — despite the fact that many people don't mean it this way — in practice, can give permission to discriminate," she said.

"It used to happen to me occasionally. Now it happens almost every time I go out," said one Université de Montréal student who wears a hijab.

The fact the we did exactly the very same thing in the 60s by taking out all Catholic nuns and priests from our schools I guess was ethnic cleansing as well? No religion in position of authority....period...why is this hard to understand?

Ironic statements coming avowedly backward-looking people

21st century and Quebec still doesn't understand fundamental freedoms ...

Why does every bill & changes impact the so-called Muslim & dirty-Muslim? The bill is perfect & everyone respect it.

Québec Is not Canada

Great news. We should all leave the moment unhappiness sets in, just our modern marriages.

Exactly what Quebec wants.

Here’s an idea. Maybe they should lose faith in their imaginary god.

Clearly unconstitutional

I am so ashamed of my country. The fact that we let this happen.

Why so many people self-decided to immigrate in Canada and want to turn Canada into their own culture or religion?

If they are that disgusted by christian symbols and values , don.t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out . We were happy with a cross hanging on a building and a xmas tree in a window . You weren,t . REMEMBER

I feel sad for these women, generationally brainwashed into thinking that the religious 'modesty' imposed by men generations ago is their own decision. Stockholmsyndrome FreeFromHijab

Go to Alberta. They’re very progressive

What are they doing there for n the first place, it’s a shit hole

They should have lost faith in religions. Religions have nothing to do with God.

Dictatorial or over protectionist government ?

It’s us in the other provinces that will gain from their moving.

Taking off a religious symbol is easier than moving and starting a new life. The law does not target skin color or race.

It is easier to take off a religious symbol than to move and start a new life

There needs to be more concern about these symbols in Universities

Racism in Quebec is truly disgusting. All Canadians should take a stand.

Good. Religion belongs in yr head, home, or church, not in public life. At least until it fades away as just another ridiculous myth. Keep it to yrself. This includes you, christians.

Oh, Quebec. Lots of room at the U of S - we born and raised in Saskatoon just tell people our weather is 'misunderstood'. 🙂 'it's a DRY cold'!

If you let a sexist piece of fabric define your destiny, well, so be it. Many backwards self-righteous societies will welcome you. Religion makes people extremely irrational. LetUsTalk Atheism FreeFromHijab

They have the freedom to settle in 9 other provinces where they will find a warm welcome, a prosperous land and a total absence of discrimination/hislamophobia. What is the problem ? The “speak English only” provinces should help these “refugees” by paying their moving expenses.

Well, that is the actual nasty plan...seems to be working...welcome to the rest of Canada.

Always separated church and state...

Very sad. WTHELL is wrong with Quebec? 😕

So religious fundamentalists want to leave the province? LetUsTalk

The CAQ government has set the province back decades. They are a disgrace and so are the people who support their backward ideology.

It's just francoislegault coalitionavenir form of EthnicCleansing - make life so unpleasant that ethnic minorities choose to leave voluntarily, with only WhiteFrancophones remaining. The only problem with that plan is that they forgot about the Kahnawàke

Quebec people are very exclusive and discriminatory

Canada is Canada. Don’t like Canada, leave Canada. Don’t take being accepted in Canada as granted.

finger start form

I just don't get this. It doesn't matter if they choose to wear a headscarf.

That was the idea behind the law though, right? To get the OTHER to leave…

A truly despicable outcome, which I fear, was the INTENT of that odious statute from the outset… 😡

Mogadishu University would love them

That’s it.

Law in the time of COVID: How the pandemic radically reoriented Ontario's justice system | CBC NewsThe COVID-19 pandemic forced Ontario's court system — like others around the world — into uncharted online territory. While lawyers say it's made justice more accessible, there are kinks that are still being worked out. It's called perverted justice. Making it up and these strangers go along isn't just. It's systemic abuse. From 1 metis lady not consenting to the majority psychosis. Which is a good thing because every part of the Canadian justice system was beyond archaic. Ontario's court sytem is too slow and seems to cater only to those who work for and in the court system.
