The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned a case of defamation brought by a former lawmaker, Ned Nwoko, against human rights activist and 2023 presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore and media organisation, Sahara Reporters.
Supporters showed solidarity with the activist as they displayed his campaign posters within the court premises. For leading revolutionary anti-government campaigns, Sowore has been arrested and detained about eight times in various detention centres in the last few years. Regardless, he has remained consistent in his activism.
“I couldn't just live with it and I've been to the police several times after that and this morning, I drove to the police so I could accompany them to court and this has affected our campaign for the presidency. We also have been given a date, May 3, to start the hearing of the case that we filed against the police and Ned Nwoko for violation of my right and N200million is at stake. We want to conclude that case on time so that we can plan well into the campaign.
“I learnt that police will embark on a strike, if it is true, I will join them because the police need better conditions of service; they need proper training, so they won't be carrying bags and plates of food for common criminals who claim they're billionaires in the country.”
