SINGAPORE — A man who was unhappy that the egg in his porridge was not cooked flung the scalding contents at a stall owner, giving her first and second degree burns on her face and upper torso.
The victim, 66, replied that Law should have informed her when he ordered. Law became unhappy, as he wanted to give the porridge to his young son. He told the victim that if she was not happy with working, she should not work, but the victim responded that she was not “working there but was instead the stall owner”, according to court documents.
The witness learned that Law was the son of another stall owner. He remained on the scene until paramedics arrived. The victim was conveyed to the hospital and found to have second-degree burns on her right cheek and upper chest, as well as first-degrees burn on her forehead and right upper limb. The burn area over her cheek, which had a blister, and the burn area over her forehead was 0.3 per cent each.
The victim took out a civil suit against Law and was awarded $2,206 in medical expenses, amongst other costs. Law is settling the amount in instalments, according to his lawyer Manickam Kasturibai, who sought a mandatory treatment order suitability report or a jail term of less than five months for Law.
