‘Not much satisfaction’ as ex-Crown directors escape ASIC punishment | pwhatch

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission wrote to 10 former Crown board members on Monday informing them it would take no further action after investigating them for potential breaches of their legal duties as company directors.

“I was surprised that there was not a greater emphasis on [ASIC] really investigating this thoroughly,” she said. “It doesn’t give you much satisfaction from the point of view of corporate governance.” “That’s going to be enormously expensive, and it’s going to take a lot of their resources,” said Mr Watson, who is now a director at the Centre for Public Integrity. “Places like ASIC are working under a pretty constrained budget and they have to pick and choose who they go after.”
