Constitutional Court Justice Jody Kollapen has highlighted the fault lines that continue to destabilise South Africa 27 years into democracy

He said the country’s failures had been as spectacular as its successes, with not enough done to prevent or address dire socioeconomic issues.

Kollapen pointed out that most black people continued to receive substandard education, while corruption undermined service delivery. His main concern was that there was only outrage in the country when an incident of racism occurred, but no steps were taken thereafter to ensure that it was not repeated.
