THE Malaysian Shariah Lawyers’ Association has urged the federal government to set up a special committee to study amendments to the Federal Constitution to empower state Shariah Courts with the ability to carry out judicial reviews of decisions made by the State Islamic Religious Council. Association president Musa Awang said an amendment was also necessary to similarly empower state Shariah Courts to review any decision by committees, including the state fatwa committees, under state shariah law.
