New voting identification requirements in Texas are putting thousands of ballots at risk of being rejected if voters don't correct them soon, multiple county officials say.

Sometimes it's as simple as election officials not having a driver's license number on file for a voter yet. If voters don’t include the same numbers on the ballot that they used on their application, officials said their ballots will be rejected.“It’s important to remember that Texas has 254 counties, and each one faces its own unique challenges to implement these new changes,” he said. “The short turnaround time that the Legislature gave to implement it has created its own challenges.”

In El Paso County, home to more than 800,000 residents, approximately 49 percent of mail ballots are being flagged for rejection; election workers are mailing ballots back and calling voters to invite them to fix the error — a process known as curing — in person. But historically, the number of ballot errors that are fixed by voters before the primary tends to be low.

Voter suppression in a nutshell

Come on NBC. This is a crock and you know it. Nice try.

The suppression was the whole point.

I have an ID; I voted twice. I used my ID to go to the bank, at the pharmacy sometimes, when I purchased wine when I fly... why is such a confusing thing? We use an ID for everything; why can't people have one to vote for?

This is exactly the voter suppression republicans built into the new rules.

By Republicans' design. They know they can't 'win' with most Texans supporting Democrats and not those who support racists, sexists, and the superrich.

Exactly how the Texas GOP planned it. Make it confusing or difficult and hope ppl give up in frustration

So, the law is working. Excellent!

They got just what they wanted, didn't they? Disgraceful, shameful.

And that was the GOP's plan all along.

Voters are now asked to include some form of identification.. fu
