Vigilance by law enforcement against impaired drivers began Friday, and efforts will remain heightened through Presidents Day weekend.
The State Patrol, local law enforcement and the state Department of Transportation are partnering on this holiday weekend’s DUI campaign, according to a news release. Preliminary 2022 data shows that of the 33 people killed in traffic crashes this year, 16 deaths have involved an impaired driver. “Impaired driving is an issue of increasing concern,” said Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the State Patrol, in the release. “It’s one of the most selfish decisions anyone can make when they get behind the wheel impaired. Remove the guesswork — if you plan to drink, plan for a sober ride. Once you’ve consumed too much, chances are low you’ll make the right choice to not drive.”
Can't imagine many folks are out celebrating presidents day.
