Jury selection begins in federal hate crimes trial for Ahmaud Arbery's killers

Federal prosecutors argue the McMichaels and Bryan violated Arbery's rights when they willfully interfered with his right to enjoy a public road in the Satilla Shores neighborhood of Brunswick and did so because of Arbery's race. Arbery, 25, was Black; the McMichaels and Bryan are white., with an additional 20 years without the chance for parole for the father and son. Bryan has the possibility of parole.

Evidence in this trial could also include Bryan's allegation that Travis McMichael uttered a racial slur over Arbery‘s body after he shot him. During the state trial, the prosecution did not present this evidence likely because they did not need to prove motive to secure a murder conviction — a key difference from the federal case.

“Here, not only do they have to prove that they killed, they have to prove that they did it because of racial prejudice and hatred," she said. Of the cases that were prosecuted between 2005 and 2019, 284 of the 310 defendants terminated in U.S district court were convicted, according to the report. Jury selection begins Monday

I just can't understand why a human being will kill another human being just cos you don't like them. They have nothing to gain by killing him, yet they did it. Now,they will rot in jail, causing their love ones sorrow. Hate is truly a destructive poison
