California’s secretary of state said Thursday that reparations for African Americans should be limited to people whose forbears were kidnapped from their homeland, stripped of their ancestry and left with nothing after generations of forced labor.
"The fear my grandfather felt, I remember as a child, was palpable, and it crippled him and his family’s ability to dream beyond the cotton fields," Weber said at Thursday’s meeting of the task force to study and develop reparations for African Americans. The meeting continues Friday. But expert testimony being heard by the task force overwhelmingly points to large racial disparities in wealth, health and education in California.
If you start taxing me for reparations for a crime, I and 99% of Californians didn't commit; you will lose your population period. No one is stupid enough to pay taxes into something; they were never a part or even an accessory to. Why are you thinking this is the 1890s still?

Perhaps the funding for these reparations can come via asset seizures and forfeitures imposed upon convicted criminals. Law abiding taxpayers who have no connection to slaveowners shouldn’t be made to pay.
A person who today suffers because of how an ancestor was wrongly treated should be made right, as much as possible, by the descendants of those who benefited from wrongly treating the ancestor.

I think it was like 157 years ago slavery was abolished. Why would ANYONE alive today be entitled to ANYTHING? Not a single person today should pay for what happened 157 years ago.
