Workers now face a phased return to offices following the easing of Covid restrictions.

However, many people have found a greater work life balance whilst working from home throughout the majority of the pandemic.

Mr Varadkar will bring a bill to Cabinet on Tuesday as he calls on employers not to return to pre-Covid work life. "This legal framework will set out the reasons according to which an employer could refuse remote working and also have an appeals mechanism that can be adjudicated independently through the workplace relations commission.

Speaking to reporters on Monday at Government Buildings, he said that an updated Work Safety Protocol would be published before the end of the week, following official meetings between the Labour Employer Economic Forum [LEEF] and meetings with unions.

IBEC's Director of Employer Relations, Maeve McElwee, said that she does not believe things will ever revert fully to how they were before the pandemic.
