More than 800,000 noncitizens and “Dreamers” in NYC will have access to the ballot box — and could vote in municipal elections as early as next year — after Mayor Adams allowed legislation to automatically become law.

Opponents have vowed to challenge the new law, which the City Council approved a month ago. Unless a judge halts its implementation, New York City is the first major U.S. city to grant widespread municipal voting rights to noncitizens.

The Board of Elections must now begin drawing an implementation plan by July, including voter registration rules and provisions that would create separate ballots for municipal races to prevent noncitizens from casting ballots in federal and state contests. Rodriguez, who Adams appointed as his transportation commissioner, thanked the mayor for his support and expects a vigorous defense against any legal challenges.

That's crap

They endure taxation, they deserve at least local representation. If they want broader representation, then they can become citizens. The real reason conservatives lose their collective minds over this subject is that most noncitizens are neither white or politically conservative

I'll laugh when they vote conservative. Watch what ya wish for idiots. You all are gonna be crying about this just like you are for defunding the cops. American citizens aren't going to take this.

Wow. Just wow..it's like baiting in the hunting world. How TREASONOUS and utterly a fist up the butt for actual TAX PAYING CITIZENS. NYC will be ground zero for civil war. How dispicable.

I'm all in for protecting our voting rights but this is not right. If this is allowed to stand then we may as well give voting rights and absentee ballots to anyone in the world who wants one.

Working on ballot box stuffing socialist style.

I’m about as “bleeding heart liberal” as they come, but where this happens I have some thoughts.

This is the worst decision

The cheating starts again!

Unless a judge halts its implementation, NYC is the first major U.S. city to grant widespread municipal voting rights to noncitizens.
