NEW YORK -- More than 800,000 noncitizens and"Dreamers" in New York City will have access to the ballot box - and could vote in municipal elections as early as next year - after Mayor Eric Adams allowed legislation to automatically become law Sunday.
Noncitizens still wouldn't be able to vote for president or members of Congress in federal races, or in the state elections that pick the governor, judges and legislators. The measure would allow noncitizens who have been lawful permanent residents of the city for at least 30 days, as well as those authorized to work in the U.S., including"Dreamers," to help select the city's mayor, city council members, borough presidents, comptroller and public advocate.
Adams recently cast uncertainty over the legislation when he raised concern about the monthlong residency standard, but later said those concerns did not mean he would veto the bill.
Totally bull crap. Like to see his bank account.who voted for vote law to take effect.
Everything for votes lol
One of the dumbest laws I've ever seen. No other country thinks this is normal. Imagine if 500,000 just went to a random country and started voting. The U.S is falling apart and since Biden has been in office there's proof liberals have been the problem
Our democracy is being ripped apart..right in front of our eyes
What's the point of being a nation or having laws?
Relevance in Chicago?
They likely contribute to the functioning of the city, more than most.
More idiocy from the libs.
Eric Adams will prove to be a corrupt disaster
I don't like it
Not even ABC7 could make this sound like a good idea.
