for large employers and health care workers to control the spread of Covid. The court will hear the pandemic-related cases in a special session January 7.

Roberts did not mention any of those factors. But he said the judiciary's power to manage its own internal affairs"insulates courts from inappropriate political influence and is crucial to preserving public trust in its work as a separate and co-equal branch of government.

"The judiciary needs to take this matter seriously," he said, though he added that the cases cited by the Journal amounted to less than 0.03 percent of the total federal civil caseload. Roberts praised one of his predecessors, William Howard Taft, who became chief justice a century ago, eight years after serving a term as US president."He understood that criticism of the courts is inevitable, and he lived through an era when federal courts faced strident calls for reform, some warranted and some not," he said.Pete Williams is an NBC News correspondent who covers the Justice Department and the Supreme Court, based in Washington.

The erosion stems from utterly misleading statements provided during Congressional confirmations about the very foundational aspects our country relies upon, ALL 4 appointed by the most corrupt president ever. THAT destroyed legitimacy and cannot stand.

Yeah, right

US Supreme Court belongs to the evangelicals religious right !

😂🤪🤣🤪Roberts sounds like a lousy comedian or a mentally ill, delusional person. If court is insulated from inappropriate influence, Moscow Mitch’s priorities would not b court appointments & blocking Biden’s agenda.Bush appointed by Supreme Court& Roberts nominated by Bush.

The doctrine granted to the people by our founding fathers was designed to protect the peoples democracy. It is being used against the very people it's supposed to protect.

Yes. Libs aren't gonna keep trying to change rules to work for them. No.

Does he know we don’t trust them

Please, the Trump/McConnell packed court system is the furthest thing from'independent thinking'.. .you can gerrymander a vote with the party lines of the SCOTUS!!!

That just doesn't ring true now, does it?

But That Coney Island Barrett Hot Dog Handmaid Crazy Crazy Lady lied and said she wouldn't mess with Roe and WTF exactly did she just do? Mess... With... Roe

you’re a little late for that one bro

Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts lied.

Who insulates the Supreme Court from Ginny Thomas’ insanity? Oh that’s right, no one

When you’re appointed to your position by politicians political influence is baked into the cake.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

They should be accountable in the system of checks and balances! As we saw with TFG, too much power corrupts! Roberts involvement in that during the impeachment proceedings should be a caution to all!

Get your Republican side under control Roberts

True but are the judges political appointees?

BS

The Chief Justice should take his own advice in regards to the Supreme Court. He talked about political influence but what about Religious influence? The Supreme Court is guilty of political and religious influence and failure to Recuse.

'...manage its own internal affairs'...'from inappropriate political influence.' The court's behavior has already damaged the 'public trust in its work.' They are little more than political and financial tools of the oligarchy we now live in.

In general he’s right. However there are pockets of insidious unjust judicial decisions impacting real lives - police that / police that - you know where I speak. Police. Be human.

Nah! The court should also be transparent & accountable and yes to congress.

Another coup

The FBI caused the riot. I proved it but the MSM refuses to tell the truth!

Start ignoring them. Ignore their decisions. They're an illegitimate entity.

Says the guy who brought us Citizens United..

Sort of Silly, don't you think? Political Influence is EVERYTHING with SCOTUS.

On one hand I agree, on another, they need to be transparent even if we have no say. After 30 days and there should be a public report on what they've done and with transcripts. Then let us see for ourselves the unpoliticalness he speaks of.

Independence is crucial, why did he gut a piece of legislation that was voted on by a majority within the legislator. That shouldn’t happen.

Gee, if only the appointments to the Supreme Court weren’t entirely political he might have a point.

THIS IS AN ACID TRIP FOR SURE.

Corporate Owned SCOTUS.

expandthecourt

JUDGE ROBERTS is the HEAD ENGINEER on the 'CROCK OF CRAP TRAIN....' We all know he votes without conscience...just PARTY..

And then he grabbed his bicycle horn, red wig,big shoes and red nose and went back to work.🤡

They are about to rule against the public on something the public wants then After much internal debate Law ruling behind closed doors in the dead of the night Aren't public getting tired of the behind closed doors in the dead of the night Laws Rulings Budgets for Decades

Roberts has lost control of the Court. He now serves only as its PR flack.

Clarence Thomas knows every ruling that he's going to make before arguments even begin; pretending that he's not a naked political operator is disingenuous. SCOTUS

Did he say that with a straight face ? 😐

anblanx Yeah. Remember when brett was blaming a conspiracy by the clintons, because the professor told everyone what he did to her?

“Preserving” implies there IS trust😂 John Roberts, that ship has sailed and you know it This recent attempt to overturn of Roe v Wade is rhe last straw THIS will be his legacy🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel like all my life teachers lied to me about the branches of government, checks & balance

Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert it is all ready gone.

💩

In Theory!!!

Lol, no

Practice what you preach

KeepItBlueDems The Roberts court is 80-0 in favor of businesses and corporations vs. individuals. Check Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse for the details. The Republicans on the court are bought and paid for.

I don’t believe that for a second. If that’s the case Thomas would have recused himself frommany cases due to his wife’s right wing extremist work

Oh yes, the courts feel very 'insulated' from 'inappropriate political influence' right now.

Congressional oversight of SCOTUS is literally in the Constitution.

He probably should address his adopted kids’ Epstein connection then, if trust is his thing.

Trump appeal on 1/6 documents likely to be denied by Supreme Court: Ex-Watergate prosecutor'Basically executive privilege is a privilege that belongs to the government. It doesn't belong to the individual,' said Nick Akerman on Saturday. Executive privilege, just like attorney/client privilege cannot be invoked to attempt to cover the commission of a crime. This is a blatant attempt to obstruct justice. That executive privileges doesn't apply to former government officials? Well, duh... but that pretty much sums up Trump's understanding of history and the Constitution.
