A new law will require the MTA to incorporate thinking about bicycle and pedestrian access at its bridges and stations and in its capital plans, with hopes that bike lanes can be added to the agency's crossings like the Verrazzano Narrows or RFK bridges.

"Public transit in New York should be welcoming, safe and accessible for cyclists and pedestrians," Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement Tuesday"I'm proud to sign legislation that will expand access to public transit, no matter how you choose to get around. As long as the pedestrians are protected from the bicyclists.

This is a great first step. The Varrazaano needs a permanent barrier separated bike lane. The RFK is a different story though. They should instead build a Hell Gate pedestrian drawbridge to mirror the 103rd Ward Island Bridge to connect Astoria Park to Randall’s Island.

a law 'incorporate thinking' about something is not a law.

Those bike lanes on the bridges will look great juxtaposed against the suicide nets.
