JOHANNESBURG - Former Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs has described Desmond Tutu as an extremely political figure who was deeply engaged in transforming the country."He was an extremely political figure deeply engaged in transforming South Africa bringing down apartheid and creating a new society but he wasn’t a politician," Sachs said."He wasn’t attached to any specific political party, he supported the liberation struggle and the freedom struggle wholeheartedly.

"It was important that he had that energy and force and strength at the same time. He wasn’t running for office, he had his own job and he also had his particular style," Sachs said. "I haven’t heard enough about it: a fantastic sense of humour, compassion. He humanised the liberation struggle in specific ways, he humanised his profession... The Bishop, instead of being serious, he was real fun.
