JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that it will also be appealing the High Court judgment on the medical parole for former President Jacob Zuma.
This comes after the Jacob Zuma Foundation said that it had delivered his application for leave to appeal Wednesday's High Court ruling setting aside the decision to release him to the Supreme Court of Appeal.• Jacob Zuma to appeal court ruling setting his medical parole aside - foundation• Court rules Zuma parole unlawful and that he should go back to jail
Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo: "Sadly, some sections of the Correctional Services Act were misinterpreted and we strongly believe that the judge erred in declaring a decision taken by the national commissioner to place Mr Zuma on medical parole to be unlawful and setting it aside." The Democratic Alliance , AfriForum and the Helen Suzman Foundation welcomed the court decision, calling it a victory for the rule of law.
Meanwhile, the South African Human Rights Commission has called for calm following the court decision, appealing to citizens and authorities to avoid a repeat of the July violence that occurred shortly after Zuma was jailed.
Chest pains galore!
What now. Who is driving the appeal
Law is law and we must respect judgment of our judiciary. RonaldLamola I believe you have studied law and you must lead by example that our law must be respected no matter who you are. It will be incorrect for your department to appeal this judgement.
Good news, this will expose our corrupt judiciary!!!
The audacity of the department in appealing the decision is appalling and lacks basis in law
Seriously! Another stupid decision by some departmental idiot. Why oh why do I pay tax? Suspect 2022 will be the start of the tax boycott in South Africa.
How F..ing long will this BS go on for?
I hope they are personally held liable for costs - taxpayers are abused by departments spending their money on defence of people that looted
Why on earth would DOC appeal, what’s it to them?
