KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh believes the upcoming court ruling on his defamation suit will have no bearing on his ability to contest in the state election.

The ruling on the state government’s defamation suit against Wong, which was set for Wednesday, was rescheduled to Friday by the Kuching High Court. The state government claimed that Wong had defamed it in a May 9 statement that questioned the settlement with Petronas on the state Sales Tax . In the statement, Wong had alleged that the state had given the national oil corporation a massive discount on SST on petroleum products and had given up the state’s rights on petroleum for a sum of RM2bil.Wong, who has held the Bawang Assan seat since 1991, is facing a five-cornered fight against Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate Robert Lau Hui Yew, Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s Michelle Ling Shyan Mih, DAP’s Amy Lau Bik Yieng, and Independent Ricky Enteri.
