Lawyer Bernard Collaery addresses the media outside the Supreme Court in Canberra, Tuesday, 6 August, 2019.The prosecution of whistleblower Bernard Collaery has been pushed back to February 2022, ensuring the case enters its fourth year with no trial date set.
Former attorney-general Christian Porter gave the green light for prosecution to start in 2018, with Mr Collaery accused of unlawfully sharing classified information about the alleged bugging operation of the East Timor prime minister by Australian officials in 2004. Her judgment on the ruling has not yet been published in full with the Attorney-General's Department arguing the information in the judgment is likely to prejudice national security.
HRLC senior lawyer Kieran Pender pointed to the irony of trying to keep a judgment advocating for an open court behind closed doors.
Biggest cover up in Australian history. The Australian Liberal Party(especially Howard & Downer) need to be on trial for espionage & theft of foreign resources through duplicitous means for Woodsidepetroleum. This needs to go to the International criminal court.
How much taxpayer money has been wasted trying to conceal disreputable actions by government. Perhaps it's time to start pensioning off some of the dreadnoughts in the public service as well as useless pollies.
