What made you decide to pursue criminal justice as your field of study?

I think for a lot of people of color — I'm African American — you grow up in an environment where you are both over-policed and under-protected as a community. And so there is a strong sense of the particular role that the criminal system plays in racial injustice.Within groups that are unfairly targeted by the criminal system, there are people that are especially vulnerable. And I think there's a strong argument that no one is more vulnerable than any given group than children.
