A judge in Los Angeles has granted Britney's request to end the 13-year conservatorship

A judge in Los Angeles has granted Britney's request to end the 13-year conservatorship.

The legal arrangement which has controlled many aspects of Britney Spears' life for the last 13 years has been terminated, a judge in Los Angeles has confirmed.A large crowd of the pop star's fans gathered outside the courthouse on Friday to hear that the conservatorship set up by Spears' father, Jamie, in 2008 had come to an end with immediate effect. The musician has been attempting for months to terminate the conservatorship, with the #FreeBritney movement picking up steam.

Jamie Spears has claimed that the conservatorship, which had power over her finances, career decisions and personal matters, had been a"necessary" step but acknowledged it was time for his 39-year-old daughter to"re-take control of her life". "Her life was in shambles and she was in physical, emotional, mental and financial distress," lawyers representing Mr Spears stated in earlier court filings.

Conservatorships are complicated legal orders that are put in place for people deemed unable to make their own decisions.Following the determination, Britney Spears took to Instagram to celebrate and praise her fans."Good God, I love my fans so much it’s crazy! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day! Best day ever… praise the Lord… can I get an Amen?" she wrote.
