The provincial board questions the 'legal basis' of the tree cutting operation of Nuevo Solar Power Corporation, which is under the company's expansion plan.

The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has ordered a power company to halt its tree cutting operations for its expansion progam in Currimao town.provincial Board Member Da Vinci Crisostomo said Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc issued a cease-and-desist order against Nuevo Solar Power Corporation .

Planners marked the remaining 36.06 hectares as an area for the expansion of NSPC. Crisostomo said that 3,317 trees would have to be cut for the expansion plant. According to the joint report of the committee on environment, laws, and good governance on November 8, it was only on October 20 that the regional DENR gave permission for the provincial government to delegate its TCP to NSPC.

The amended report of the board included documents that showed that provincial environment and natural resources officials had already formed a special team for the cutting of the 3,317 trees. DENR-Ilocos Norte had also issued an order to implement the TCP. Board Member Franklin Respicio said the responsibility of replacing the fallen trees and designating the new ones' location remained unclear.
