The petition to cancel or deny the certificate of candidacy of presidential aspirant and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has no basis and is unlikely to move forward according to former Justice Secretary and Ateneo Law School professor Atty. According to the Ateneo law professor, the law states that in order to cancel the COC of a candidate, he or she must be found guilty and punished with more than 18 months imprisonment and be convicted of a crime involving ‘moral turpitude.’ “Moral turpitude, kung medyo halang ka, bastos, immoral, talagang gusto mong mandaya o manggulang.

In the very first place, the petition to cancel can never gain ground at all. The Comelec cannot acquire jurisdiction over a petition filed beyond the 25 day period after the COC has been filed by BBM! To do so would make whatever proceedings null and void!
