‘Rust’ armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed has spoken out through her lawyers for the first time since the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. In a statement provided to Variety by her law…

by her lawyer, Jason Bowles, Reed extends her sympathies to Hutchins’ family, as well as defends her reputation and conduct on set. She also describes how she was left scrambling to do her jobs given she was hired to work two positions and says she was denied adequate prep time.First Hannah would like to extend her deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Halyna. She was an inspirational woman in film who Hannah looked up to.

She would like to address some untruths that have been told to the media, which have falsely portrayed her and slandered her. Safety is Hannah’s number one priority on set. Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah has no idea where the live rounds came from. Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns and she never witnessed anyone shoot live rounds with these guns and nor would she permit that.

Hannah was hired on two positions on this film, which made it extremely difficult to focus on her job as an armorer. She fought for training, days to maintain weapons, and proper time to prepare for gunfire but ultimately was overruled by production and her department. The whole production set became unsafe due to various factors, including lack of safety meetings. This was not the fault of Hannah.

Hannah and her legal team will address more of these rumors and the whole incident in an upcoming statement next week.

her ~excuse~ is “I didn’t do the first thing in my job description, but at least that means I didn’t do anything”? I will be frustrated when this all comes up again in the inevitable inquest ugh

It was literally her job

That seems like a rather weak defense, since that was her job.

Rust was a low budget movie and they did not employ a reputable Armourer firm. And a woman died before her time. As for this absurd 'comment'... perhaps the LIVE bullet was beamed down from Space!!! 🇬🇧

At 24 years of age, she is not an experienced armorer. Why they would let guns be overseen by someone who didn’t have enough experience is crazy. That was a failure by the Producers & Director. If she doesn’t know how the live rounds got in the gun, she wasn’t doing her job.

It was only her job to know. She was a nepotism hire and should face consequences.

I think I see the problem. You see, where the rounds came from is not relevent - Why the gun ever left her control for someone to put live rounds in it is the the question. I'm an Ex-Drill sergeant - on a range you have to have total control every damn second. No idea? Get out.

Why was AD handing Baldwin the gun? 'According to a search warrant affidavit released last Friday, Gutierrez Reed set three guns on a cart outside the church, and assistant director Dave Halls took one from the cart and handed it to Baldwin.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Hannah going to prison

I know nothing about Hollywood but why are they using real guns to shoot scenes? They have sound engineers and editors to make it look/sound like a fake gun actually fired. Responsible gun owners know the cardinal rule and it’s the easiest rule- don’t point a gun at someone…

Did this guy graduate at the bottom of his class at law school? Does he have a real degree? Holy shit. “It’s not Hannah’s fault.”

this statement is SO SO SO SO BAD. if an actual lawyer wrote this, they need to give their malpractice insurer a call to put them on notice. so much of this is incriminating AS HELL & will wreck her in a civil suit. but I legit think she wrote this herself tbh. also, “and nor”?

So basically you're just announcing that you are indeed criminally negligent...

Live rounds don’t just magically appear. Someone bought them, brought them on set and loaded the magazine

WOW

In the immortal words of Arthur Edens: “want some free legal advice? Never let a scientist use ‘unanticipated’ and ‘immediate’ in the same sentence. Okay? Okay.”

Ain't it they job to know? I am confusion

!

That’s the job though.

Multiple News Stories Detailing Gutierrez's Negligence On Other Incidents. She Certainly Spent Enough Time Bragging About Herself On Social Media. Still Never Heard Anything About Her Drug Test...

Negligence

The overarching theme to this tragedy seems to be “hiring unqualified people”

well then that's the effing problem

Very awkwardly written statement. She may need a legal upgrade.

that is the armorer's job you do know you have the right to remain silent, right?

Probably her back pocket… have seen all the gun-toting pictures of her!?

..... isn't that ... her job

KimTomp11872840 Doesn’t she have a lawyer?

Bullshit. Wanna bet a story comes out about the crew having target practice and playing around before this happened? Not saying I know. Saying someone is lying.

Yeah, my first thought was 'fire that lawyer.'

Well, that's not reassuring.

Why was she hired for two positions? Why if being hired for two positions was a problem and she couldn't focus on being the armourer full time didn't she refuse one?

If there were unsafe conditions where she couldn't do her job THEN SHE TAKES THE GUNS AND LEAVES. If someone 'somehow' put live bullets in THE GUN SHE WAS IN CHARGE OF that is her fault - she either let them, or the guns were not secure.

'no idea where the live rounds came from' It was her job to know.

She was a classic LA nepotism hire, usually its just shitty but this time it was deadly.

'Hannah was hired on two positions on this film, which made it extremely difficult to focus on her job as an armorer.' Honey, all this means is that you should have refused the job(s) if you couldn't do them.

This is part of a statement released by her lawyer

So many people dropped the ball on that set. The sad thing is, if someone had just checked the gun beforehand, nobody would have died.

Isn’t that her job? To know exactly where it comes from

That is so much worse

What if the bullets just walked into the gun by themselves? Has no one considered this?

But it was her job to check those guns before they went onto the cart and also before filming started again. So. No. This lawyer statement doesn’t cut it.

But it’s her job to know.
