The Putin critic winning the Sakharov Prize, which is backed by the European Parliament's main political groups, will further embitter ties between the EU and Russia.

His winning the Sakharov Prize, backed by parliament's main political groups, will further embitter ties between the European Union and Russia that have been at a low since the annexation of Crimea by Moscow in 2014.Jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny declares hunger strike over medical treatment

The group, called the Anti Corruption Foundation, called the prize a victory for all supporters of "truth". He also called for Mr Navalny's unconditional release from prison and for an international investigation of his poisoning.
