Big Law associates are in high demand. Here are the firms winning and losing in the talent war.

and promises of fast-tracked partnership routes to woo talent. Mid-level and senior associates skilled at handling complex client work and managing junior lawyers are in especially high demand.

But associate gains don't tell the whole story. Over the same period, 323 associates left Kirkland, while 55 left Norton Rose. Both firms are of similar size, according to numbers from the National Law Journal. Kirkland had by far the largest net gain in terms of absolute numbers, at 290 associates. On the flip side, Jones Day, Hogan Lovells, and Sullivan & Cromwell had the largest net losses, down 58, 39, and 33 associates from one year ago.

Associates who want to eventually move in-house look for firms with big-name clients they can develop close working relationships with, Bhatt added.
