Reece Walsh on Monday pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs and contravention of a police move-on direction in the Southport Magistrates Court.

New Zealand Warriors fullback Reece Walsh, who admitted to possessing cocaine after a night out on the Gold Coast, has been fined and placed on a good behaviour bond.

The 19-year-old NRL star pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and contravening a police move-on direction in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday. He admitted to having a small bag of cocaine on him when searched by Queensland police officers after being arrested in the early hours of September 25.

Walsh had fronted a press conference after the incident alongside Warrior chief executive Cameron George and his manager, Nash Dawson, where he admitted to taking cocaine during the night.“I had some [cocaine] during the night,” Walsh said in the press conference. “No one else is involved in this. It’s solely on me. I’m putting my hand up. I should never have done it. It’s a mistake I made and I’m aware of that. When asked whether Walsh had a problem with drug abuse, Mr George said the incident was a “one-off”, and that it was a “stupid decision made by an inexperienced person”.“He’s owned up to the mistake he’s made,” he said.
