The federal Education Minister is among those expressing “concern” at academic Peter Ridd’s “all or nothing” High Court loss.

“So, JCU’s actions were technically legal. But it was, in my opinion, never right, proper, decent, moral or in line with public expectations of how a university should behave.”from Mr Tudge, who said that while he respected the decision of the High Court, he was “concerned that employment conditions should never be allowed to have a chilling effect on free speech or academic freedom at our universities”.

“University staff and students must have the freedom to challenge and question orthodoxies, without fear of losing their job or offending others.”The Education Minister added that “we need a culture in our universities of accepting and welcoming open robust debate, even if some feel offended in the process”.

“I will be getting further advice on the implications of the Ridd case. There are few things more important for the advancement of truth and knowledge than having open, robust debate at our universities.”

RIP Science.

Breach of contract. The concern should be that people were fleeced out of money. Millions raised? how many thought it was about free speech?

Sacked climate sceptic loses High Court caseBreaking: Climate sceptic Professor Peter Ridd has lost his High Court case. He was fired after deciding the scientific consensus on climate change overstated the risk it posed to the Great Barrier Reef and vigorously arguing that position Correction: Ridd was fired for repeatedly flouting the code of ethics by lying about his professional colleagues in the media Not (as implied) for being a climate science denier and reef destroyer. (There are still some climate science deniers at JCU AFAIK) Climate Yes, but you don't tell us what 'other' activities Ridd engaged in that resulted in his sacking!!! Surely this is what we want to know. Don't tell us of factors that DID NOT LEAD TO HIS SACKING. Please tell us what DID. What’s that wailing sound I hear? Oh, newscorp “journalists” who pushed this case as the epitome of their misguided and toxic “free speech” agenda. (Also, the same highct that freed/acquitted their buddy George Pell, btw.) Bless their little disappointed hearts. 💔 auspol
