'Driver arrested, court appearance to follow'

The Garda Roads Policing Unit in Co. Waterford reported pulling a driver in recent days for speeding, only to find that he was in breach of a much more serious law.

The test came up positive for the presence of drugs and the person was arrested with a court appearance and charges expected. According to Irish law, if you are convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be automatically fined and disqualified from driving for a set period of time.In 2021 alone, Gardaí have carried out 27,882 breath tests and have detained 13,211 for various offences after pulling drivers.
