SINGAPORE: Companies should employ people based on their competence and suitability, and not the colour of their skin, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said on Monday evening .
Mr Shanmugam was responding to a question about how the TAFEP guidelines will apply to companies that say they have a racial preference for employees, once these guidelines have been written into law. Mr Shanmugam said on Monday that the target is for the TAFEP law to benefit minorities as well as other groups that face workplace discrimination, such as women.
Mr Lee had also said during his National Day Rally speech that the Government intends to pass the new Maintenance of Racial Harmony Act to consolidate its powers to deal with racial issues. "So, it can't be too intrusive, and yet you want it to be able to work in a way that encourages racial harmony and brings people together, and shows that society frowns upon certain types of conduct.
And might I add not language as well.Always have to know a certain language to get a chance ,when English is the bridge in Singapore .
of course ... Shanmugam ... competence ... qualified ... definitely the next PM !!! What's his Chinese name again ?
Wake up. Nobody care about the skin colour here. The only things that the employer and you people care about is bring in the cheapest PMETs and their families. Without them Singaporean no jobs... Sick mind.
如果人才來自一個貪污腐敗的國家,你覺得這些人才可以信任嗎?
Yes!
yes i agree. the problem is with the hirer. tend to look for color for easy communicationwatever lah.
Shoulda Coulda Woulda ?
Agree totally.
Of-course like suitability, if markets prerequisite of requiring Chinese speaking that's right. Even other skin colours can verbalize in such languages, they shouldn't be rejected. All for reasons of suitability and markets requirement.
Then no more “Singaporean core” bullshit when firing? Companies can fire based on skills only?
