Opinion: A COVID paradox - no right to live with your own risks but free to choose death | parnellpalme

Yet in mid-September, Queensland Parliament will debate whether citizens of the walled state should have the right to voluntary assisted dying, or euthanasia as its critics call it. If the conscience vote passes, Young will presumably have to get comfortable with the idea that some Queenslanders, whose lives she could have prolonged by weeks or even months, will die.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said she was not comfortable with any deaths from COVID-19.In Western Australia, eligible people have been able to access voluntary assisted dying since the first of July. The irony of the “My Life, My Choice” banners waved by the celebrating campaigners appears to have eluded jailer-in-chief Mark McGowan.

Many doctors are, like Queensland Chief Health Officer Young, opposed to the idea of precipitating death. They point to the incredible advances in palliative care as a better alternative. Retired palliative care specialist Dr Philip Lee says that many patients when they are first diagnosed worry they will be a burden on their families and ask if they can just end it.

parnellpalme The government is suppressing early treatment. Why? If the situation was so dire, one would think they would be willing to look at all possibilities. But their collective minds are completely closed. And many people are dying unnecessarily.

parnellpalme Jailer in Chief?

parnellpalme Primary school argument and obvious fallacy. Decisions about assisted dying for terminally ill individuals is unrelated to temporary health measures designed to protect a general population whilst vaccines rolled out. Sorry to insult primary school kids!

parnellpalme I don't know about anyone else but I am sick of these politicians telling us how to live.......I don't believe that even if we get to 80% ....they will then come out and say....oh sorry we need 90% vaccination before we open up.....based on the health advice...over it

parnellpalme “YOU DON’T GET TO CHOOSE HOW YOU’RE GOING TO LIVE, BUT YOU CAN DECIDE HOW YOU’RE GOING TO DIE “ Dr Jeanette Young

parnellpalme GladysB The death Queen

parnellpalme How long till depression is a path to euthanasia? I understand the basis of the argument, reduce suffering. But making this a law is NOT a step forward, but a step backwards. My mother had her plug pulled in 1981. Decision made by my Dad & her mother, why hand decision to govt?

parnellpalme Sorry about your loss but this is a terrible article. A person choosing death is not same as a contagious disease that you might take others along to the grave with you.Maybe your grief has had you conflating two different issues . When you have covid we all live with the risk

parnellpalme your state leader is weak, is crap. Qld's state leader is a true leader. That's why nsw residents are leaving nsw in droves and moving to the sunshine state. gladys's ex boyfriend was/is corrupt. you're the media. do your job. investigate/report that !!

parnellpalme False dichotomy God, Fairfax has turned to sh _ t

parnellpalme One is an individual matter, only about you in a passive sense. The other questions the symbiosis that is a cornerstone of mankind’s success. It is only about you by rejecting the need to exist together.

parnellpalme It very common for nurses to assist terminally ill patients in palliative care. Just kept quiet and dignified

parnellpalme Choosing to die is not the same as choosing actions which may harm others

parnellpalme A confected paradox arising from lacking understanding on the subject of assisted dying. By the same argument, Gladys will be very comfortable if it passes in NSW. By her own hand she's already assisting people to die even when they don't want to.

parnellpalme The fundamental thing you miss..Choosing Not to Vax affects / kills others..

parnellpalme What's the difference between the solution recommended by the writer - 'a palliative journey which ends peacefully with painkillers and sedation' - and assisted dying? A distinction without a difference

parnellpalme The logic sounds as tortured as Plato’s argument for life after death. In one case a person is choosing the time of their own death. In the other we are choosing something that will result in the death of others.

parnellpalme The quickest treatment for covid 19 Do people give a dose of what is called Korkin This is the island treatment for covid
