Victorian pubs and restaurants in regional Victoria where COVID-19 cases remain low, could open by mid-September under a trial for fully vaccinated customers. coronavirus covid19

Pubs and restaurants in regional Victoria where COVID-19 cases remain low could open by mid-September under a trial for fully vaccinated customers.Victoria could potentially begin a vaccine passport trial in areas with low case numbers as soon as the state hit its 70 per cent single dose target, with a pilot program to be trialled in regional areas first.

Restaurant and Catering Association chief executive Wes Lambert said he was aware a trial was being considered and confirmed he had begun early talks with state government representatives. He said regional venues would be keen to sign up to any pilot program.Mr Lambert said the association intended to make a submission to the state government as early as this week requesting the government use a public health order to protect hospitality businesses that refuse service to unvaccinated patrons.

Australian Hotels Association Victoria chief executive Paddy O’Sullivan said while he had not received a formal proposal from the government regarding a vaccine passport pilot, he was upbeat about the proposal. “We have let them know that this is our approach, and we are looking for a mechanism in which that can be achieved,” he said.

Divide n rule

So when the vaccinated go into the pub and someone who is there with Covid passes it on, who is responsible for the spread? Unvaccinated or kids under 12?

Why does everything seem to revolve around alcohol with this government? Some of us couldn’t give two shits about being able to go to the pub, vaccination or not. Most of us would just like to be able to see our families without fear of getting a fine for doing so.

No matter vaccinated or not, you can still catch, and still spread, covid. So these 'laws' are discrimination

Medical apartheid....imagine being only accessible by people in a certain BMI range. Imagine not being able to go to the pub if you have diabetes.

How about not going down the segregation and discrimination path, and opening up to all? The data is out and we know that being vaccinated does nothing to prevent you from contracting the virus or spreading it to others.

No regional Victoria should be open fullstop just lockdown Shepparton for another week open up everywhere else for anybody

Why isn't it 70% nation wide Why should regional open when in my LGA there has been no cases in months but because we are classed as metropolitan we can't open Mixed signals and people are fed up

Trial? Mid September? What? Cheers from up the road

What if the owner of the pub isn’t vaccinated?

Absolutely when VIC hits 70% first dose there would be 40% plus fully vaccinated. Pubs and restaurants should be allowed to serve that 40% that are fully vaccinated they made the effort and should be rewarded.
