Republican lawmakers in at least half a dozen states are looking to copy an unusually written Texas law that represents the most far-reaching curb on abortions in 50 years.

, prohibits abortions once medical professionals can detect cardiac activity, usually around six weeks and before many women know they’re pregnant. While a dozen states have tried to enact bans early in pregnancy, those laws have been blocked by courts.that authorizes private citizens to file lawsuits in state court against abortion providers and anyone involved in aiding an abortion, including someone who drives a woman to a clinic.

Republicans for years have turned to statehouses in conservative states to find new ways to erode abortion rights enshrined by the high court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The Supreme Court — at least for now — has cleared a path forward for them. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, said the state should wait until the more stringent anti-abortion Arkansas law receives a final judgment.

“This Texas law could be a ray of light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel, and our state is ready,” Dunn said in a statement. “All of that case law is in turn built on the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. If the foundation of that series of case laws is impacted, impaired, taken away, the entire reality in our state falls like a house of cards, which is why we need to, as soon as possible, put this protection into statute.”

Texas is giving very much Handmaid’s Tale. Under His Eye. How about we focus on the babies/kids who are in broken homes, homeless, or who are in foster care first? Pro-Lifers are way too obsessed with the unborn. It's creepy.

Can't believe these murders are so upset that they can't murder an 8 month old baby, pure evil.

I guess they aren't running for office in 2022?

Restrict? They are essentially banned.

I hope they can afford to pay for child support and/or the funeral costs of the women who were left to die because their pregnancy killed them.

Should take it on the chin like Kamala. She is a role model they say..

The Taliban see GOP-led Texas as a model...🙄

Cool, now we care about this, but condemned Afghan women to the stone age.

REALLY? That’s your heart and heartbeat the law talking about? You have 2 hearts? Define life by a breath of air for adult criminal because of hi skin color but when it’s an innocent child You must breath cold hospital air before you can feel them drilling into your skull 🤫👹

Oh stop trying to make a big deal out of nothing. No one gives a crap about abortion

👏👏👏

Awesome.

So if they're pro life, does that mean they'll battle next for mandatory vaccines and masks wearing?

morgfair Now 12 states want to have Texas Laws on Women. Bounties on our heads. We have to do something now.

This is a ridiculous law where a person without standing, which in any other legal situation would be dismissed by courts is being given protection by immoral judges in supreme court. Biden needs to dismiss all justices and close down court. Nothing in law that prohibits him.

Operation Blitz. This is part of its long game, right?
