'Our country is backsliding to the unconscionable days of Jim Crow.' Martin Luther King III was among the speakers at voting rights rallies across the U.S., calling for federal laws against voting restrictions advancing in some GOP-controlled states.

Many activists view the fight over voting rules as the civil rights issue of the era. But frustrations have mounted for months because two expansive election bills have stalled in the U.S. Senate, which is split evenly between Democrats and Republicans and the measures lack the votes to overcome a GOP blockade.

His son Martin Luther King III used the occasion to call on the Senate to scrap the filibuster rule, which requires 60 votes for most legislation, including the voting bills, to advance. “Texas is the worst state to vote in, in the entire nation,” said U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Houston.

But unless Democrats make changes to the Senate procedural rules, passage of the bill, as well as a separate measure that would establish national election standards, remains unlikely. Angela Hill, 61, who lives in the Washington area, attended the rally with her daughter because she is “alarmed” by Republican efforts to make it harder to vote. In spite of Trump’s false claims of a stolen victory, Republican and Democratic election officials across the country certified the outcome and Trump’s own attorney general said he saw no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

A daughter of the late civil rights leader, Bernice King, led the march in Atlanta. In an interview with The Associated Press, she called for “new levels of civil disobedience” to push against voting restrictions.

All these want is to ensure that the black racist ghost voters can vote without a ID

OfficialMLK3 is absolutely correct. Media should not quote this as if it is a person opinion. They should be investigating and reporting on this story as a crime in progress.

the only way to justify these new voting restrictions is if you assume that everything trump says is true… you can’t look at the fraud statistics and tell me our election wasn’t secure

Such an embarrassment to his father's legacy.

waltshaub HYPERBOLE at its best. What is racist about requiring voter ID, no mail-in ballots and no drive-through voting NOTHING!!! You want to vote GET UP OFF YOUR ASS AND GO VOTE!!!

Oh no, not Voter ID 😱!!!

This is patently false.

There is nothing in any of the new, or old laws, that keeps you from voting. Take your ballot, go vote, no one will stop you. This is all nonsense. AmericaFirst

I haven't seen any new voting law that effects one group differently from others - or makes voting difficult in any way. It's shameful to pit folks against each other for political gain. I do object to the bans on providing water; especially if lines are long. That's inhumane.

There’s two Democratic senators to blame

Why do Democrats believe people of color are incapable of completing the most basic of tasks?

Can someone please explain how voting rights are being restricted?

The state they’re in just elected two democrats to the Senate, so I guess there’s *that comparison to Jim Crow.

can you guys please help me find out why ATT is charging Veterans Accounts while the accounts are in Military Suspension. I’ve been trying to reach out to them since May and they are still taking money out of my account while I’m overseas for an account I’m not even using.

I see numerous Voting Rights protests and marches. Where are the COUNTER, ANTI-Voting Rights protests? If there ARE NONE, then why are there ANY votes in Congress against the Voting Rights Act?

The Democrats are using Black people to disguise voting rights as a civil rights issue when in reality it’s an immigration issue. The ultimate goal is something California has been proposing, allowing “undocumented”immigrants the right to vote in American elections.

Cant go in a restaurant and get a burger in NYC without proof of vaccination, but people are bitching about having to show an ID to vote? Lol…sounds about right.

Covid IDs though right?

Look at that picture. 😔 In 2021 we are fighting for our right to vote while we wear face masks during a pandemic. We face a mob of fellow citizens who want to take away our right to vote as they scream they have a right to not wear a mask or get a vaccine during said pandemic.

lol lol lol lol lol

“THEY” happen to be right!

AdamKinzinger Is against voting rights

wow its a good thing there will be no end to racism. what would the media, politicians, and race 'leaders' do with themselves and how would they make money? 🤷‍♂️

First the Executive, then the courts and now the Congress. This is the bite of the Gila Monster.
