Meanwhile, Nilad Metro Manila Environmental Network stressed that instead of resorting to a “worrisome” suggestion to implement Martial Law-like orders, the country’s chief executive should “consult scientists and environmentalists” for the rehabilation of the Manila Bay. “We question the motive of dangling the imposition of Martial Law as a model to rehabilitate Manila Bay,” the group said in a statement.

On Thursday night, Aug. 26, Duterte believed that the illegal reclamation of esteros or canals in the country has become so bad that a “Martial Law power” would be needed to solve it.
