Exclusive: Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News has threatened the ABC with legal action over a Four Corners episode about the cable network’s coverage of Donald Trump and the last US election. zoesam93 | media ABC Trump

episode that examined the American cable TV network’s coverage of former US president Donald Trump and its role in the aftermath of last year’s general election.have confirmed that Fox News’ general counsel Bernard Gugar sent a letter to ABC chair Ita Buttrose and managing director David Anderson on August 22, the day before the episode aired on Monday night.

One senior media lawyer said it was not clear what legal options Fox could pursue over the episode in Australia, unless Four Corners defamed an individual or disclosed highly confidential information about the company. An alternative legal avenue is to seek an injunction on the second episode, the lawyer said, but that would be likely to attract more attention to the program. “The legal options are limited,” the lawyer said.

“The episode clearly violates the basic tenets of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s published standards by exhibiting bias and a failure to maintain any level of impartiality in the presentation of news and information,” a Fox News spokesperson said when contacted for comment.

“News Corp not enjoying scrutiny does not mean the scrutiny is unwarranted. The events around the critical 2020 US Presidential Election and the coverage of it are clearly in the public interest to investigate. The huge role played by Fox News is legitimate to examine.”

zoesam93 Didn't learn from Porter then.

zoesam93 Good, ABC is top level fake news. The Age are just below them.

zoesam93 It was Fox News that won a defamation suit by arguing that no reasonable person would believe Tucker Carlson tells the truth; Some people/organizations want protection in both directions. I'll to check out the Four Corners report, it could be interesting.

zoesam93 About time Aunties obsessed

zoesam93 I hear the ABC will be using the same legal council as Tucker Carlson if Murdoch sues. With the same plot.(We can say what we want... everyone knows it,s not true)

zoesam93 Seemed fairly benign and innocuous reporting for 4corners. Makes me wonder what Fox and Murdoch are trying to hide.

zoesam93 The only thing they got wrong was the suggestion that before Donald Trump took over, it was fair and balanced.

zoesam93 FergusonNews You’ve wounded Murdoch. If it bleeds we can kill it.

zoesam93 Snowflakes.

zoesam93 I'm wondering if Murdoch & Fox News is going after Al Jazeera on YouTude? Cause there are video's going back from 2010 exposing Rupert Murdoch.

zoesam93 Haha it was a great episode and can’t wait for next week.

zoesam93 Like all right wingers / have the biggest glass jaws.

zoesam93 😂 must be true then

zoesam93 No legal options, just Murdoch sitting down for a meeting with ScottyTheBlameShifter where Murdoch says cut funding to the ABC or I will find someone else to be my prime minister of Australia. Time for the MurdochRoyalCommission
