Shamies Unusual Hearts Foundation has lamented the flaws in Nigeria’s criminal justice system, saying proceedings often going on for years without conclusion was responsible for prison congestion.Founder and executive director of the foundation, Mrs. Sara Abdul, stated this during a visit to the Kuje correctional centre, Abuja where the foundation fed and donated items, including medical equipment to over 1000 inmates.

Abdul stated that a situation where at least 70 per cent of the inmates were awaiting trial revealed a broken justice system.“Nigeria justice system is broken. The Federal government should do something about it because there are many cases that should not be kept here. If the country justice should be the way it should be,we should not have issue of congestion in the Correctional centers,” Abdul said.

Abdul said the gesture was to provide succour for inmates by pulling together A-list music artists and comedians to entertain them, and also meet some of their basic needs of life.
