A lawyer on behalf of FC Barcelona has lodged an appeal in a last-ditch attempt to block Paris Saint-Germain from signing Lionel Messi as a free agent this summer

Barcelona have lodged a complaint with the European Commission so that Paris Saint-Germain are unable to sign Lionel Messi.

PSG are widely reported to be on the verge of completing the 34-year-old’s signing on a two-year contract with a deal expected to be concluded in the coming days. Branco’s letter reads, as cited by Marca : "PSG's ratios in terms of 'Financial Fair Play' are worse than those of Fútbol Club Barcelona. In the 2019/20 season, the ratio between salaries and income for the Parisian team was 99%, while that of Barça was 54%."

"Leo's contract, despite the fact that they wanted to reduce his salary by 50%, would have reached 110% of the salary cap imposed by the European authorities and by the Spanish La Liga."It is claimed that Messi is set to earn €40million in wages alongside a bumper signing on fee.
