Dennis Theman donated over four times the legal limit to NDP riding associations around the 2015 federal election and exceeded donation limits again in 2017

That’s over four times the legal limit of $1,500 in total donations to any number of riding associations or candidates of a federal party at the time, according to the commissioner’s office.

According to the commissioner as well as the NDP, the party has already returned the vast majority of those illegal donations to Theman.Article content “As part of the terms and conditions of the compliance agreement, agreed to pay a sum of $7,330 to the Receiver General of Canada, of which $5,830 represents the total illegal contributions and $1,500 ensures future compliance,” reads the commissioner’s release.

Theman has also been a regular and generous contributor to the party’s coffers. According to Elections Canada records, Theman has given thousands of dollars to the NDP through over 100 donations since 2014.Article content
