It was supposed to be a regular teen birthday party. Instead, it led to a police investigation, two trials and an experience one expert says should 'shock our moral consciousness'.

Nadia had alleged that she had been raped four times in a location close to that shed before one of the men pulled her further away, where the alleged attack continued.

Nadia was questioned about why she didn't call for help during the alleged rapes. She was asked about the differences between her account of the night and the account of the accused men. The prosecutor, Peter Triandos, did not object to any of the questions about Nadia's clothing and Judge Richard Smith did not intervene."I just felt like screaming to them, 'What has this got to do with anything?'" she says.

Mr Rattray would again seek to link that kiss to Nadia's alcohol consumption at another point in his cross-examination, where he also asked whether she had intended to sleep with the accused men that night. The phrase to "break her duck" is taken from cricket where it is usually used to describe a batsman making their first run. It's not the first time Judge Smith has made a controversial comment during a rape trial.

You poor girl! Good on you for having the courage to speak up publicly. Surely there has to be a better way for Women than this. A better way for women to speak up and get to the truth and not be treated like this. Disgusting! What about polygraph testing? Some justice system

Good on you Nadia for speaking up. I hope you help others and this has helped you too

Clarke_Melissa Christ. That was hard reading.

This is amazing journalism and such an important issue to highlight. As a psychologist who works with survivors of rape, part of the process of deciding whether to report usually involves a discussion about the retraumatisation that will occur during the trial process.

Needed is a wholly different system for society to respond to such cases (teens & young adults/party/alcohol). And some prevention too. (NOT snake oil reactions - shaming all boys, redefining consent, abolishing juries etc)

😢any wonder the vast majority of sexual assault cases go unreported

Is there a way to read the story in normal text form? I hate all the distractions

Motherfucker said he couldn’t hold an erection that night then said the sex was consensual? Man’s capping fr 😠

😬🤷‍♂️ there are no winners in that very sad story…. Kids and alcohol, fact and fiction, distorted truth, foggy memories and Chinese Whispers. 😐 The truth is in there somewhere…

- please, please, PLEASE stop it with these artsy-fartsy scrolling weborama pages, with slide-over text and background images that nobody looks at. It makes the article almost impossible to read, and I gave up the endless scrolling before I even got to half way.

Prosecutor it would appear was less than good, no protest at actions by judge defence lawyers. Nadia attacked as if she was acting as a harlot, just wonder whether the choir boys had any previous form ? Judge should be sanctioned

Defence lawyers need to be reigned in attacking the victims integrity while the perpetrators are held up as pillars of society is par for the course. What else would you expect from the legal fraternity ? Fairness 😂 even the judge was on the side of the alleged perpetrators

I still have nightmares about my trial. I activly recommend girls against pressing charges, because they're never found guilty all it does is make you want to kill yourself even more. I couldn't imagine going through it all in a small country town. Poor girl.

Horrific, absolutely disgusting, victim blaming and shaming right there. I can not imagine what this poor girl has gone through, but good on her for opening her identity to push for justice
