KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has found former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam guilty of contempt of court for intimidating a witness in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd trial involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"This court finds the respondent guilty of contempt of court and convicts him accordingly," said High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Thursday . The proceedings were brought by the Attorney General in 2019 after Lokman was alleged to have intimidated a key witness in the 1MDB case, Najib's former special officer Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.
On Oct 22, 2019, Justice Sequerah granted leave for the AG to initiate committal proceedings against Lokman for the acts perpetrated on two occasions on Sept 25 the same year.The AG said that on that date , the respondent in a video interview uttered words constituting an express or implied threat against Amhari for given evidence in the criminal trial against the former prime minister at the High Court.
