The Dáil has passed the Government's legislation on the reopening of indoor hospitality. The Health (Amendment No.2) Bill 2021 was voted through tonight by 74 votes to 68.

It will allow bars, restaurants and cafés to resume indoor service for those who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or who have recovered from the disease in the last six months. However, because the margin of victory was less than 10, the Sinn Féin health spokesperson David Cullinane asked for, and was granted, a physical vote on the bill. The Government's legislation on the reopening of indoor hospitality has now passed all stages and will go for consideration to the Seanad.

The legislation passed tonight will also extend the system of hotel quarantine until 9 October, with an option for a single additional extension of a further three months. Minister Varadkar said the Coalition would "speed up the vaccination programme, leave some restrictions in place and re-emphasise the public health messages."

"This isn't about catching any one out," he said, but noted that the bill provides for enforcement measures if they are needed. "This isn't about Government versus Opposition," he insisted, noting the "almost universal opposition to this, from within the Opposition". He said the Government has made "an absolute pig's ear" out of its reopening plan and branded it a "farce."

"It's a very delicate balance between the generations at the moment - and I think this works against it," Ms Shortall said.

Doesn’t really matter what the gov say right/wrong ..SF just say the allegiance..honestly SF counting their lucky stars they’re not in gov making the calls, pandering to the “entitlement brigade”.Instead of complaining share practical solutions. cooper_m

DublinProtest no mention of this folks? Selective “journalism” from RTÉ once again….

Yet to hear any detailed plan from Provisional SF as usual all they do is complain.

Hello Mary Lou , goodbye science.

Although I agree, where was SF's voices for the past few months Always at the last minute to garner votes for the future. More BS

SF WAS RIGHT.

I look forward to seeing this fall to pieces in practice. I won’t show my ‘pass’

Why not cover the protests outside the convention centre? You have an advertisement telling people to use a trusted source like , why would we though when you ignore some protests but bolster the ones you agree with? boycottrte

Shameful vote them all out

Then the vaccinated should not be allowed to dine with us unwashed un vaxxed. They can stay indoors on those sunny days. It’s only fair. And if they are caught they should also be fined.

It seems the opposition parties don’t want the hospitality industry to reopen yet.

Maybe presidentIRL will have something to say about medical apartheid and segregation being introduced under his watch? MyBodyMyChoice

Of all the people I know, zero are pushing for reopening indoor dining. Their thinking and mine is, why open stuff up when there's an ultra transmissible variant. We should be happy with outdoor dining for now (it's summer). Let's not have lockdown again

All involved will pay the clock ticks faster for people like you

Sinn Fein

Great news!

Could we have the names of the 74 fascists who voted for apartheid in Ireland?

Not a single dissenting voice amongst FF, FG and the Greens, yet a large % of the people who put them in government (and all but 1 person in opposition) would vote against this. The government do not represent the people. I will never vote for anyone from these 3 parties again.

Can see a general election looming !! Bring it on

So discriminating against free thinking Irish people is now legal …. Great , Mehole and Leo can pay themselves on the back and I can start discriminating against HOMO S AND REBEL GOBSHITE SOUTHERN S

Has Tourism to do with this rather than than the `general health of the Nation

Shame on them.

'Shame' seems to be the word de jour. No siree, this current crop of outrage has not been manufactured in anyway whatsoever!

One step closer to....

Shame on whoever voted yes. Disgrace.

74 Fascists. I presume many of the 68 wanted more restrictions on children. They are BigPharma's target for these experimental injections with no long-term data after all. No GreatReset w/o VaccinePassports DigitalIds Slippery slope to 1930s Germany

Good old Michael Lowry voting with the government by Jesus he never lost it what do the people in his constituency think of him now as for the shower of cowards that didn’t show up for the vote I hope people give them their answer next GE

Only going to cause trouble

So Paddy (unvaxxed)says to his brother are ya going for a pint? Brother (with cert)says 'No. Give us a lend of your Cert so'. Who's the wiser?

It's a really really sad day for the people of Ireland when this totally inept Government has to force through legislation to get a Burger & Chips indoors. What has this country come to. Between this three trick pony of a Government and NPHET, they have it destroyed. What's next.?

Shame on every one of them, what are they coming for next

And yet RTÉ meant to be a independent source of news sees absolutely nothing wrong with it , always cheerleading the government of the day hoping for extra funding..

Shameful...

Apartheid nothing less

Who did not vote for it ?
