The jury in the trial of six people charged with a range of offences against three children have been hearing evidence of the man's interviews with gardaí after his arrest in 2017.
He said things were hard financially but they would do their shopping every week and the kids got everything they wanted. "I would nearly go without my fags to get the kids what they wanted," he said.He told gardaí that his wife had a baby after the first five children were taken into care. He said she did not tell him she was pregnant and he did not know until she went into labour and the baby was born at home.
Asked how his son would have the language to described what had allegedly happened to him he said he did not know. He told gardaí that he had never watched pornography and thought it was disgusting. He said he used Facebook messenger to send photographs to his sister of the family on days out. He said a number of phone numbers and email addresses were identified on the devices and gardaí sought assistance from US authorities to seek further detail from Facebook, Microsoft and Google because the data is stored in the US.
