Zuma was not in court on Tuesday when he was found guilty and has been ordered to hand himself over within five days to a police station.

Former South African president Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for defying a court order to appear before an inquiry probing wide-ranging allegations of corruption during his tenure.

The country's Constitutional Court ruled that Zuma defied an order by refusing to cooperate with the commission of inquiry, which is chaired by deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo. "Mr Zuma was served with the order and it is impossible to conclude anything other than that he was unequivocally aware of what it required of him."

"Mr Zuma has repeatedly reiterated that he would rather be imprisoned than to cooperate with the commission or comply with the order made," she said.

great news!

You can travel a long distance in five days. 🙄

Praise be

Should have been part of the current LNP government and he would have gotten away without issue and probably got a promotion or become deputy PM

15 months is better than what he would have gotten for the blatant corruption - good result from his perspective.

Can we get That Court Here to look over the Despicable Rorting Morrison Government?

Davelennonabc No country’s constitution has been formed through a more deliberative process of widespread community input than South Africa’s. The people are sending Zuma to prison.

Massive. Imagine what would happen in Australia if this was applied? A Royal Commission may just see this take place.

Long overdue. Without fear or favor.

Meh
