Antivirus software creator John McAfee, 75, is found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona after the Spanish high court authorises his extradition to the US.

Antivirus software creator John McAfee, 75, has been found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona after the Spanish high court authorised his extradition to the US.The high court had earlier agreed to extradite him back to the US, where he faces tax evasion charges.

A justice department statement released on Wednesday evening local time said: "An inmate pending extradition to the United States has been found dead this afternoon in the cell he occupied in module 1 of the Brians 2 Penitentiary Centre, where he was admitted." The statement said prison surveillance professionals and prison medical services intervened immediately to perform resuscitation manoeuvres.

However, doctors eventually certified the death of the "75 years-old inmate who had been jailed on October 4 last year, by order of the National High Court". Mr McAfee, who was arrested at Barcelona airport in October 2020, said during an extradition hearing this month that the accusations against him were politically motivated.
