Irate members of East Ivanhoe Bowls Club have refused to accept ‘outrageous’ plans to turn their rinks into the home courts of Ivanhoe Netball Club, declaring: ‘We’re not going anywhere.’ CarolynAnneWebb

Irate members of a lawn bowls club have resolved to fight council plans to convert its 70 year-old green into netball courts.

He said the netball club should “go find somewhere else”, such as the two vacant tennis courts in Ivanhoe Park. Mr Perkins said prospective members would not want to join a bowls club whose green was at a different site to its clubhouse. East Ivanhoe was friendlier than other clubs. “If you come in and have a beer, someone will always say, ‘Come and sit here.’ ”

CarolynAnneWebb So they proposed a merger a few years ago with the club whose lawns they are being told to relocate to and now they are complaining? Seriously it’s down the road. The Netball club don’t have facilities yet there is 2 bowling clubs in the area with lowering membership.

CarolynAnneWebb Move with the times people!

CarolynAnneWebb Tom13Boyle our new local bowls club getting taken over by netball, it is fate 😢

CarolynAnneWebb Unfortunately Netball is a growth sport and it is Council Land. The Bowls Club have had it good for a very long time. Time for the oldies to move to the other Bowls Club just down the road. The new precinct will give the young girls a facility that they are in desperate need of.

CarolynAnneWebb This scenario is a tough one every time. No matter what happens, someone loses. What's more important to the community, bowls or netball? Both have merit. State MPs getting involved in Local Council community consultations is where things get properly dicey though.
