A tribunal determined the man was not an independent contractor but an employee of the delivery company which is a “really significant decision” in the future of gig economy workers and companies, according to Transport Workers Union National Secretary Michael Kaine. “This is a really significant decision the eyes of the world are on it in fact, what it means is the Fair Work Commission has essentially called out on exploitation of food delivery riders,” he told Sky News.
